"Drone spray" architecture and Vitra furniture to feature at designjunction 2018
Dezeen promotion: emergency housing made by drones and an exhibition of Vitra furniture are among the among the installations and exhibitions set to feature at designjunction during this year's London Design Festival.
This year for the first time, the annual designjunction showcase takes place on London's South Bank, in three venues: Oxo Tower Wharf, Doon Street and Riverside Walkway.
Installations will be installed along the Riverside Walkway during designjunction
Riverside Walkway will host a series of outdoor installations. Among them will be the housing project, by French architect Stephanie Chaltiel, which comprises a building system that can be customised depending on its location.
Called Mud Shell, the project centres around a digital tool that programs drones to "spray" natural materials onto a prefabricated framework. Chaltiel will work alongside students from London's Architectural Association to construct a prototype structure coated in mud, to show how the technique could be used transform temporary shelters into permanent housing.
Dome-shaped built by drones will be on display on the Riverside Walkway
Another installation will be created by a team from Saint-Etienne in France. Using steel and ribbon, two of the city's main industries, the structure will features steel arches of varying sizes dressed in ribbons by manufacturer Neyret.
