15 Degrees House is a private residence carefully situated on a rural wooded hilltop.
The house consists of two 20? x 84? bars set perpendicular to each other and rotated an additional 15 degrees in response to site attributes and to create a dynamic interrelationship.
Each bar is axially organized for clear definition of spaces and engaging naturally lit site lines internally and externally.
Design direction was inspired by functional characteristics of the traditional farm house and a contemporary interpretation of the craftsman aesthetic resulting in a refined rustic appearance.
This direction was coupled with the goal of LEED certification and its inherent technical requirements (LEED for Homes Silver is anticipated).
The thin dimension of the bars enables natural lighting throughout the house and the careful placement of operable windows allows for refreshing cross ventilation.
The horizontal massing of the house, detailed linear expression of the interior trim, and the interaction of spaces to each other and to the outside create an experience of rest and tranquility. This rest is kept fresh with crisp articulations such as the detail of the...
