2016 Heritage Toronto Awards and Kilbourn Lecture
The 42nd Annual Heritage Toronto Awards and 20th Kilbourn Lecture will occur on Monday, October 17, 2016. Presented together with the Kilbourn Lecture, the Awards are a celebration of outstanding contributions made by individuals, corporations and community groups in heritage preservation and education throughout the city. It is an evening to acknowledge their continuous efforts while solidifying cross-sectorial relationships, and to fundraise for Heritage Toronto’s programs.
The evening begins with the Mayor’s Reception at Alumni Hall, Victoria College (73 Queen Park’s Crescent #106) from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. The general Awards Program, including the Awards Ceremony and Kilbourn Lecture, begins at 7:30pm in the Isabel Bader Theatre (93 Charles Street West), located next to Alumni Hall. A post-Awards reception will follow. We are joined again by the vibrant Mary Ito, broadcaster and former host of CBC’s Fresh Air, who will emcee the evening as we announce winners in five categories?Book, Community Heritage, Media, Short Publication, and William Greer Architectural Conservation and Craftsmanship. We will also present this year’s Special Achievement Award to Carolyn King, former chief of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation.Â
Dr. Steven High, Professor of History at Concordia University, will deliver the 20th Kilbourn Lecture, “The Deindustrialization of our Senses: A Multi-Sensory Approach to Intangible Heritage.”
