3XN Wins Contest to Build New Condominium in Toronto

3XN won a contest to create a residential condominium in Toronto, Canada. The Danish company will build two towers with undulating balconies inspired by the waters of the adjacent lake.

Tridel and Hines, the developers of the project, held the contest for the housing complex which comes as a step in the development of East Bayfront. East Bayfront is an old industrial area in Toronto that will be developed into a novel community dubbed Bayside.

3XN?s proposal of the Waves at Bayside condominium, which is located by Lake Ontario, arranges the towers so that they don?t block the lake views of the surrounding buildings.

The two buildings are 60 and 59 meters high and they provide balconies for each occupant. The undulating terraces are a “reflection of the waves across Lake Ontario” as 3XN declared.
“The building is shaped as a landscape with two high points and a valley in-between,” the firm commented. “By shifting these two ‘peaks’ slightly apart, 3XN was able to maximize waterfront views from each unit.”

A raised communal plaza will be established atop of the concaving part in the middle of the condominium. The bottom floors will accommodate different public amenities.
