Green Light for Gensler?s Revitalisation of 90 Long Acre Building
Gensler and Platform have secured planning approval for the repositioning of the iconic Richard Seifert building in the heart of London?s West End.
The project will deliver a repositioning scheme that revitalises the existing commercial office building. The work will see a refurbishment of the internal office space, whilst giving the building new relevance in its context, making it less defensive in its connection to its surroundings and celebrating the corner of Long Acre and Endell Street. A new internal experience at ground level will connect the building to the wider Covent Garden area and create a new multi-purpose volume for use by the public and tenants. Improvements to the public realm and activation of the ground plane through the introduction of retail uses will reanimate the streetscape and turn the building into an exciting new mixed-use destination that echoes the vibrancy of Covent Garden.
Designed and completed in the 1970?s by R.Seifert & Partners, the building has been a Brutalist style landmark in Covent Garden for over half a century ? but in recent years has become increasingly inefficient, dated, and in need of modernisation to fulfil the needs of today?...
