A' Design Awards and Competition 2018 winners announced
Dezeen promotion: the winners of this year's A' Design Award and Competition include a cinema in China and a retreat on a Norwegian fjord.
The annual A' Design Awards aim to recognise the "best products, projects and services worldwide that demonstrate superior design, technology and creativity".
In the 2017/2018 edition of the awards, 1,962 winners from 100 countries were recognised in 99 different design disciplines.

One of the winners was the Malangen Family retreat on the Malangen peninsula near Tromsø in northern Norway, designed by studio Snorre Stinessen. The house comprises a collection of blocks that each contain one of the cabin's rooms. The timber house has large windows that provide views across the surrounding forrest and fjord. The majority of the cabin's furnishings, including the dining table, benches, beds, wardrobes and fireplace, were also designed by Stinessen.
Another winner in Norway was Hadar's House, a small coastal residence that over looks the Norwegian Sea and the neighbouring coastal islands.
The timber house is divided into two volumes. Built on a concrete slab on the ground, the first timber box contains the house's entrance and a bathroom. The second box is raised on wooden pillars above a cliff and house's the kitchen, living room and a loft for sleeping.
