Airbnb fills Leonardo da Vinci's former mansion in Milan with designers' personal curios
Faye Toogood's ethereal stones and Matteo Thun's watercolours are among the personal items that Airbnb has installed inside the 15th-century home of Leonardo da Vinci for this year's Milan design week.
Curated by Montine Mondadori, Passeggiata: An Airbnb Experience of Milan has taken over the Casa degli Atellani, where Da Vinci resided while painting The Last Supper.
Holiday rental platform Airbnb is inviting visitors to explore the residence and find the personal objects of well-known designers and architects nestled among towering bookshelves, baroque tables, drawers and window ledges, like a huge cabinet of curiosities.
The collections include rocks and stones gathered by designer Faye Toogood on her travels, which are presented in an open, decorative wooden cabinet.
Italian architect Matteo Thun has contributed a series of new watercolour paintings inspired by his travels, while French designer Sam Baron is showcasing his cutlery collection.
Projects of emerging designers are also used to furnish the residence, providing a contrast to its traditional features.
Korean-born Ahryun Lee is presenting a series of colourful vases, including an orange version covered in yellow spikes, a yellow one spotted with black and red dots, and another covered in a tangled web.
Objects by Hungarian designer Zsolt Josef Simon, which feature muted palettes and natural forms, are discretely displayed on a gold-fronted window shelf.
