Architect Peter Guo-hua Fu donates $12-million to McGill School of Architecture

Shanghai’s skyline is studded with buildings shaped by architect Peter-Guo-hua-Fu. Now the McGill alumnus is setting his sights on a new project: taking McGill’s long history of world-class architecture education to the next level.
The University announced his landmark $12-million gift at a special event attended by Mr. Fu, McGill leaders and special guests, including the Consul General of China in Montreal, Mr. Peng Jingtao. His gift, payable over six years, is allocated primarily to four key areas:
Creating a range of scholarships, fellowships, travel awards, internships and summer research opportunities, including a new exchange agreement with the prestigious Tongji University in Shanghai. Establishing chairs and professorships that will build upon the existing world-class faculty by attracting visiting scholars and professors from around the world.
Promoting travel, collaborative research and pilot projects, with an aim toward strengthening the School’s global partnerships with public and private institutions.
Increasing outreach through public lectures, workshops and partnerships with schools, community groups and arts organizations.
One portion of the gift will be used to create the Peter Guo-hua Fu Fellowships. These will be awarded, on the basis of academic merit, to graduate students entering or enrolled in the School. Preference will be given to citizens of China.
