On Sunday April 7, the Bell Center in Montreal will host the second edition of the Architects Hockey Cup, where 4 teams will be competing for bragging rights?but mainly, to fundraise for Architects Without Borders – Québec Chapter. After the game, families attending the tournament will have the opportunity to free skate on the Montréal Canadiens’ home ice.
In the first edition of the Architects Hockey Cup in 2017, $10,150 was raised for Architectes de l?urgence et de la coopération, the predecessor organization to Architects Without Borders – Québec Chapter. The organization is currently working on projects in indigenous communities in Quebec, as well as abroad in Haiti, Madagascar, Nepal and Syria. The preliminary lists of players for the 2019 edition includes architects from Montreal, Toronto, and Quebec City.
The 2017 tournament was held over two weekends in Montreal and Quebec City, and included 60 players and 500 spectators. It recreated the historic rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and the Quebec City Nordiques.
“Opening this tournament to other Canadian cities would be a possibility in the future, depending on interest from our colleagues from Vancouver to Halifax,” says Martin Houle of Kollectif, a co-organizer of the event.
