The approach to the design of the house at Northbridge, was to create a modern addition that was respectful of the existing house by using a low roofed zone which linked the existing house with the modern two storey addition at the rear. The fall of the land required a change in levels to grant access to the large rear garden.

The level change allowed for a private guest suite and a sculpture studio tucked under the kitchen and living. Floor to ceiling south facing windows take advantage of the views down across the valley and north facing high light windows allow ample sunlight to fall into the living areas. The form of the modern addition was envisaged as a glazed box wrapped in a protective skin which serves as a modern interpretation of the existing brick walls.
