Abstract Barnes, Southwest London house extension
Abstract Barnes is a small extension project for a wonderful Victorian house in Barnes, a district in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in the United Kingdom. This contemporary property design is by Matteo Cainer Architecture.

The site is close to Barnes Common and WWT London Wetland Centre which are both parts of the local nature reserve. This proximity fostered a project that was in dialogue with the surrounding environment and the adjacent gardens.

The key idea was to transform and open up the extension to nature and the elements by creating glazed openings to the sky and the back garden. The resulting living spaces are invaded by a multitude of colours and an abundance of natural light.
