Besler? ?&? ?Sons launches speckled home accessories
Flecks of coloured glass and marble chips pattern these terrazzo objects for the home by Los Angeles studio Besler? ?&? ?Sons.
The set of Props features four different shapes: The? ?Classic? ?Wedge,? ?The? ?Personal? ?Pan? ?Pizza, The? ?Soupcan? ?and? ?The? ?Snubnose? ?Wedge.
They can be used as bookends, doorstops, paperweights and serving platters, or as decorative pieces in a home or office.
Besler? ?&? ?Sons, founded by husband-and-wife ?Erin? ?and? ?Ian? ?Besler, handmade each piece by adding the glass and marble chips to a cement mixture, then casting it in moulds.
?After? ?curing? ?overnight,? ?the? ?hardened? ?terrazzo? ?is? ?wet-ground?? ?and? ?polished? ?to? ?expose? the colourful pieces.
Terrazzo has been used for centuries as a construction and finish material in buildings ? most commonly flooring, thanks to its durability.
Other recent applications have included a camouflaged furniture installation by Max Lamb and inside a Singapore restaurant by Barber and Osgerby's Universal Design Studio.
Besler? ?&? ?Sons has taken a similar approach to updating the material, but on a smaller scale.
