Canadian Modern Architecture book launches in Calgary and Sudbury
The book Canadian Modern Architecture, 1967 to the present is launching at events in Calgary, Alberta and Sudbury, Ontario next week.
Canadian Modern Architecture, 1967 to the present is a comprehensive review of major work in this county. It includes 15 original essays by authors including George Baird, Brian Carter, Ian Chodikoff, Odile Hénault, George Kapelos, Lisa Landrum, Steven Mannell, Sherry McKay, Marco Polo, Lola Sheppard, David Theodore, Larry Wayne Richards, Adele Weder and Mason White. It is extensively illustrated with 500 photographs and drawings.
On Wednesday, January 15, an event in Calgary, entitled Just City, is moderated by book co-editor Graham Livesey. The discussion is part of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape?s Design Matters lecture series. Panelists will examine topics such as: transparency and awareness around injustice ; social responsibility; environmental sustainability; surveillance and monitoring (intelligence); the city of diversity; self-organization among citizens and grassroots movements; a city designed for everyone/inclusivity; public space as an important part of the city (for protest, debate, etc.); and economic realities. A reception will be held at 5 pm, with the talk starting at 6 pm. Tickets are available here.
