On Thursday, March 5, the book Canadian Modern Architecture, 1967 to the present launches at events in Edmonton and in Toronto.
The Edmonton event will be held at the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Ledcor Theatre, with a reception at 6 pm and panel discussion at 7 pm. It includes book co-editor Graham Livesey with Cynthia Dovell (Avid Architecture), Jan Kroman (Rockliff Pierzchajlo Kroman Architects), and Vedran Skopac (Manasc Isaac).
The Toronto event will be held at Ryerson’s Department of Architectural Science at 6:30 pm., with a reception following the talk.  It includes book co-editor Elsa Lam with chapter authors George Kapelos (Ryerson University) and Marco Polo (Ryerson University).
Starting from 1967, this comprehensive reference book considers how the practice of architecture in Canada has changed, and how Canadian architects interpreted international trends, regional and indigenous architectural tendencies, with a focus on Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. The conversation in Edmonton features three young architects?Cynthia Dovell, Jan Kroman and Vedran Skopac?who will discuss current factors shaping architecture in Edmonton. The panel is moderated by book co-editor Graham Livesey, who will be present the book as a contextual backdrop to the discussion.

The panel at Ryerson will discuss research on the Centennial projects, Canada’s civic architecture, and the evolution of Toronto’s architecture.
