Dezeen promotion: modern design meets function in our latest competition, where Dezeen has partnered with Danish furniture brand Fritz Hansen to give away a shelving unit from its Planner collection.
Originally designed by Paul McCobb in the 1950s and recently reissued by Fritz Hansen, the Planner shelving displays the late American industrial-designer's characteristic functional, mid-century style.
The shelving unit is made from oak wood and powder-coated steel and is available in three heights of 84, 123, and 165 centimetres ? each with different shelving configurations.
One reader will win a Planner shelving unit from the collection in the size of their choice.
Durable powder-coated steel rods in a matte finish are welded and joined by hand to comprise the shelving's structure. Corners are gently rounded to "soften the overall expression", with the curved metal outlines complementing the bevelled edges of the natural oak shelves.
The curved oak edges are designed to sit flush with the metal frame, a feature described by the brand as a "small but significant detail".
Planner shelving was designed to be suitable for both private and professional working and living spaces.
The flexible furniture item can act as a regular bookshelf or display unit, or even as a room-partition wall if multiple units are placed adjacent to one another.
