Competition: win a Sonos One voice-controlled smart speaker
In this competition, Dezeen is giving away a Sonos smart speaker that plays, pauses and changes music in response to voice commands.
One reader will win a Sonos One speaker, which allows users to search, play and switch songs ? as well as request information like weather reports ? with their voice.
American brand Sonos launched the speaker last year to be compatible with Amazon's virtual assistant Alexa, but plans to link the system up with additional voice services, including Airplay 2, Google Assistant and Apple's Siri-enabled devices.
Currently, users trigger the device by saying "Hi Alexa", followed by a command. For example, they can ask it to play a particular song, which can be streamed from over 80 services, such as Spotify, Apple, or Amazon. The system can also be controlled directly through the Sonos app.
Designed to fit "just about anywhere" in the home, the speaker comes in either black or white. It is described as medium-sized, measuring 6.4 inches (16.2 centimetres) high and weighing four pounds (1.8 kilograms).
Mesh-like plastic resin wraps around the speaker, forming rounded corners, while the top and bottom are flat to form a sturdy construction. The speakers are also moisture resistant, so that they can be placed in bathrooms and outdoor patios.
A limited-edition set of colourful versions of the speaker, created in collaboration with Danish homeware brand Hay, is set to launch in September 2018.
