Construction begins on Town of Newmarket?s 16-acre Mulock Park

Construction has officially begun on the Town of Newmarket?s 16-acre Mulock Park.
The masterplan and design process of this project, led by PLANT Architect Inc., is now transforming former private estate lands into a gathering space in the heart of southwest Newmarket.
“Mulock Park will be a four-season hub for recreational activities ranging from ?active exploration to peaceful retreat,? and encompassing ?artistic expression, historic education and reflection,” reads the Town?s media release.
The project first began back in 2018, when the Town purchased the Mulock Property? the 19th-century manor house and extant core of what had previously been a 250-acre estate. Rather than a historical reconstruction, the Town wanted a living community space despite Sir William Mulock (1843 ? 1944) figured prominently in politics, higher education, and multiple other fields.
In 2019, PLANT was selected to lead the park?s masterplan and in 2021 to advance this vision into implementation.
Through community consultation with over 3,000 local residents, strong support emerged for a park that would celebrate nature, culture, and diversity, while also commemorating millennia of Indigenous history and post-settler history.
