D.154.2 armchair by Gio Ponti via Molteni&C
Dezeen Showroom: Furniture company Molteni&C is presenting a reissue of the D.154.2 armchair, which was one of several custom designs created by Italian architect Gio Ponti for his Villa Planchart.
The D.154.2 has a distinctive, rounded shell that envelops a circular seat cushion and sits perched on thin steel legs.
The armchair is low-rise and curved
It was originally designed in the 1950s to match the Florentine-style home that Ponti created for art collectors Anala and Armando Planchart in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas.
"I dedicated myself heart and soul to designing Villa Planchart and in it, I was at liberty to express my own approach to architecture, both outside and inside," the architect said at the time.
D.154.2 has removable velvet covers The design was re-released as part of Molteni&C's Gio Ponti Collection, which reinvigorates some of the architect's seminal designs based on extensive research.
Now, there is the option to have the D.154.2 upholstered in a selection of the brand's rich velvets, giving the chair an added three-dimensional effect and a soft, textured finish.
