Dramatic Island Retreat on a Rocky Shore by Mcfarlane Biggar Architects + Designers
Gambier Island House is the name of contemporary modern residence built around the rocky landscape of Gambier Island neighboring Vancouver, Canada. The establishment has been developed by Mcfarlane Biggar Architects + Designers being envisioned as a weekend retreat for a couple their two children; the home uses simple geometry and minimalist contemporary finishes to shelter three bedrooms and two bathrooms naturally complemented by a dinning, an open-plan kitchen and a living area that opens up to expansive views towards the sea and mountains beyond .
?Two stacked boxes are perched on the rocky cliff, clad in wood, cement board, and glass to fend off the elements.” The hybrid structure has been built using wood and steel with little concrete being used isolated; this mixture has been an attempt to minimize the effect of the establishment on the site itself. Independent sources of electricity and heat have been carefully examined in the home`s development as the home is accessible by water or air only.
The living room gathers extraordinary expansive views of the surroundings, the neutral palette indoors is meant to bring the inhabitant`s attention outdoors.
Expansive glazed walls flood the interiors with natural light throughout the day.
