Floating Into An Ecofriendly Design
A floating human habitat has been envisioned as an experiment between architecture group EKA Sisearhitektuur and the Estonian Academy of Arts Interior Architecture Department, which brought together students from Estonia, Iceland, Denmark, Latvia, and Lithuania. The Veetee (?Water Way?) was designed as a response to a flooding problem in Estonia when every year the water levels rise up to several meters for weeks, incapacitating the inhabitants of the area and provoking them to go about in boats. The structure resembling the classical shape of the home we used to draw when we were little, has been constructed out of wood, a platform meant to rise with the tide.Since this experiment, the State Forest Management Centre of Estonia has managed the creation of several similar projects, encouraging professional-student collaboration. In the future we would love to see such a level of implication in other problematic areas of the globe as well.
The floating structure can be used as a basic structure for a future floating home in crisis times.
Imagine being able to spend a weekend in such a mobile home, keeping in touch with the natural.
