House for a Contractor, Queens
Design: IdS/R architecture
Location: Queens, New York, USA
After working on several high end residential projects with IdS/R Paul McEvoy of Northeast Contracting Group asked us to design, House for a Contractor, an addition to his Tudor Style bungalow in Queens New York.
As an owner builder Paul had a good idea of what he wanted for the house: A central cantilevered steel stair, and open kitchen, Wisconsin Limestone and an occupiable attire space that would require the existing roof to be raised about 12?.
A new masonry volume was added perpendicular to the axis of the existing house. The Tudor-style facade was streamlined to suggest an abstract grid.
The interiors are finished in clear white oak, blackened steel and white plaster. Many of these finishes had been installed by Paul on other projects designed by IdS/R; but for this project he made them his own.
