House in Yokkaichi
This beautiful family home designed by SYAP is located in a suburb of Yokkaichi, an industrial city in Japan. The house is oriented toward the south with a large window that spans the building to maximise natural lighting.
Inside, the two-storey space has been arranged so that the private quarters are based on the upper level and the ground floor serving as an open-plan living space. Internal windows on each wall of the suspended bedrooms evoke a sense of transparency. Outside, the huge eaves provide a comfortable environment suitable for Japan’s climate with the four seasons by controlling the amount of sunlight. On the other hand, the light leaked from the high side window lights up the surroundings like a lantern. The house is unified with the garden which is continuously renewed by the client and is now open to the local community.
I love the intimacy of this project and at same time how it’s open to nature and to the neighbourhood.
