In a collaboration with Measured Architecture, Powers Construction and Unbuilders, the Interior Design Show (IDS) has revealed the concept of Vancouver?s 2019 central bar, which will be constructed on-site. Restock, the show?s concept, is an examination of a standard dismantled single-family home that utilizes a proportionally accurate visual account of all materials that are removed from a standard 33? x 122? lot.
According to the Restock team, 60 per cent of Vancouver?s landfills are consumed with materials from the residential construction industry.
From September 26 to 29, Restock hopes to shed light on demolition strategies that protect the salvage content of a building.
Measured Architecture has envisioned the Bar Pavilion as a visual measurement to catalogue the content of a typical home anticipating demolition. The Bar Pavilion will focus on a site?s desired 15 per cent reclaimed salvage material using old-growth timber. Building paper will represent the 80 to 85 per cent recycled content of a dismantled home, while PVC sheets will make up the remaining five per cent waste awaiting the landfill.
The team is celebrating sustainable practices through a commitment to consider, environmentally focused approaches. The project calls for no drill holes or cuts in order to help maintain the integrity of the materials.
