International Architectural Competition for PHI Contemporary
The PHI Centre has launched an international architectural competition for the design of PHI Contemporary, a new cultural complex to be built in Old Montreal. The initial call for candidature is now open and closes on Oct 14, 2021.
Founded in 2007 by cultural philanthropist Phoebe Greenberg, PHI is dedicated to supporting art and artists probing key agendas of our times. PHI Contemporary will be a new and permanent space to consolidate and expand PHI?s cultural offerings for artists, communities, and the public life of the city. Located in Old Montreal on a site with four historical buildings and an adjacent vacant lot, PHI Contemporary will consolidate and expand the PHI Foundation and PHI Centre.
The new 6,900-sq.-metre project will house exhibition and new media galleries; spaces for mediation, research and studio work; and an expansive public domain. The projected construction budget is just over $47-million. The jury includes architects Elizabeth Diller, Jacques Lachapelle, Dan Stubbergaard and Ippolito Pestellini; artists Miles Greenberg and Jean-Michel Othoniel; and Greenberg.
Comprehensive details on the three-stage competition?including eligibility, timelines, key deliverables and remuneration?are available here. The winner will be announced on July 15, 2022.
