International Union of Architects launches new sustainable development award
The UIA, in partnership with UN-Habitat, launched the UIA 2030 Award to promote the work of architects contributing to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development together with the New Urban Agenda.
The biennial award, synchronized with the World Urban Forum, invites architects around the world to submit entries for built projects which have made significant contributions towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in six categories.
?Faced with the challenges of climate change, rapid urbanization and deepening inequality caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has never been a more important time for architects,? says the UIA.
Submissions should be for built projects that have been completed and occupied for a period of between 1-5 years prior to date of submission.
The UIA is additionally facilitating a series of initiatives to increase awareness of and commitment to designing for health, including an open-access digital information hub, an international research agenda and support for the creation of resources to help architects around the world conduct research on healthy environments.
The organization has initiated the logo competition for 2022: “UIA Year of Design for Health.” The winning logo will be used for the branding and promotion of the UIA’s year-long activities.
