KCAP exhibits station related projects in «Train and the City»
Rotterdam/Zurich, 13 December 2016 – As from tomorrow, KCAP Architects&Planners presents a selection of its station projects in the exhibition «Train and the City» at Architekturforum Zurich, Switzerland.
Since the industrial revolution and the birth of railway transport, cities have developed rapidly around their stations and continue to do so. Today, the arrival of high speed trains, the improvement of transportation and new technologies, brings us to imagine and create new visions for train stations and their surroundings.
«Train and the City» invites you to explore a selection of KCAP?s oeuvre that deals with different aspects of station areas as a driving force for the development of European cities. The starting point for this focus is an article by Kees Christiaanse, called «Europe by Rail» (2013) in which he describes stations in their historical urban context on a train trip from Zurich to Amsterdam. Beyond the need to build dense and walkable cities around hubs, through its work KCAP considers the impact of new stations on the city, how they mutually develop and how shrinking railway infrastructure offers opportunities for urban development.
