Lang Architecture Materializes Hudson Woods Retreat
Lang Architecture, a New York based studio, have designed the Hudson Woods Retreat. This is a project that comprises of 26 individual properties. Their design reinterprets the modern cabin with a design that seeks to rediscover the things that matter: freedom, family and nature. All of the cabins are completely integrate within the natural landscape and they come in two basic layout options that the owners can fully customize. The idea was to put an emphasis on sustainability with materials sourced by locals. The lighting is supplied by the passive solar design while the heating is taken care of through a highly efficient hydronic heating system.
Located in the Catskills region, about 100 miles away from New York, the Hudson Woods project makes sure of responsible land use, including forest management and on-site agriculture. The retreat’s goal is to protect and enhance the stunning natural beauty of the surroundings while providing a contemporary living alternative.
The interior design draws inspiration from the Scandinavian and the mid-century styles, featuring white oak interior walls. On the inside, the cabins are modern but they also have the snug warmth and coziness of a mountain home.
