Design2e engineers two luxury apartment blocks in Birmingham
With more miles of canals than Venice and more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other UK city outside London, Birmingham is a sought-after place to live. Against this background of high demand, structural and civil engineering design consultancy Design2e has been commissioned to deliver a two-stage tender project to build two luxury apartment blocks, called Left Bank, in the city centre.
Located on Broad Street behind a listed building, the towers will stand at 22 and over 31 storeys when complete, making the larger of the pair the tallest residential building in the city. The brass-clad towers are in fitting with the style of the neighbouring Brasshouse building and the site?s industrial heritage.
The apartment blocks are built on an extremely small footprint, meaning that Design2e had to use all its engineering ingenuity to optimise the structure?s economic viability. The company?s design minimised the core structure, which can only be used to house staircas...
