Marcel Wanders creates lamp for Moooi with "super-thin space-frame structure"
Extra Moooi: in our next movie for Moooi, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders discusses his Space-Frame light, which features dozens of LED lamps supported by a truss-like wire frame (+ movie).
Wanders' Space-Frame light is available in two sizes, featuring either 34 or 64 LED lamps encased by polycarbonate shades designed to resemble cut glass.
"Space-Fame is a rhythmic matrix of metal wire with little LED lights with shades like crystal lamps," explains Wanders in the movie, which Dezeen filmed for Moooi in Amsterdam.
"It has a really interesting structure: a super-thin space frame, which gives these lamps a wonderful surface that can be tilted up and down and angled over a table."
Space-Frame is the latest product by Moooi to take advantage of the company's proprietary Electrosandwich technology.

Electrosandwich allows the LEDs to be powered directly through layers of conductive material within the frame, without the need for additional wires.
Heracleum light by Bertjan Pot for Moooi
The technology was first used by Moooi on Bertjan Pot's Heracleum light in 2010.
"We developed it a long time ago to find a way to give electricity to different LED lights that are dispersed away from each other," Wanders explains.
