Judicial Review over Holocaust Memorial Call-in
UK Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick is to defend his handling of the Holocaust Memorial planning application by Ron Arad and Adjaye Associates in the high court.
The London Gardens Trust has applied for a judicial review of his decision to allow his junior colleague, housing minister Christopher Pincher, to determine the fate of the application.
The application for a memorial and visitor centre in the Grade II-listed Victoria Tower Gardens was called in by Robert Jenrick in November 2019. It came just hours before Parliament was dissolved and three months before Westminster Council unanimously rejected the scheme. The application for the proposed new landmark was submitted in 2018 by the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation, an organisation sponsored by Robert Jenrick?s department, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).
Jenrick had been accused of breaching planning guidance over Holocaust memorial in May. Baroness Deech accused him of ”a breach of the guidance on planning propriety, and less than impartial behaviour.”
