New Energy: Valley Park Library, Hamilton, Ontario

The $12.2 million renovation of Hamilton?s Valley Park Library is a 26,500 SF project that includes a central children?s area, maker space, green screen/media recording room, a private outdoor courtyard, lounge areas, study rooms and meeting facilities.

Designed by mcCallumSather, the library targets a 60 per cent reduction in energy usage against a traditional building and more than 65 per cent reduction in annual ongoing greenhouse gas emission.

Originally built 40 years ago, Valley Park was transformed from both a functional and sustainability perspective. A more sustainable future was the vision of the Valley Park Community Centre renovation and library addition, with an ambitious goal to reduce GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions by 40 per cent, the highest carbon emission reduction target in the city to date.
