Old Barn Defines New Rustic Refuge in Lago Ranco,Chile
The rustic Barn House by Estudio Valdés Arquitectos nestled in the middle of an enchanting forest represents an airy open summer rustic refuge in Lago Ranco in Chile with an intense interest for recycling. The entire wooden beam structure has been left bare and exposed to dominate a long open plan space that offers incredible views of the surrounding landscape through massive glazed walls that open to enhance the visual and physical communication with the outdoors. Constructed from old barn wood, the elongated spaces features the dinning space, living room and terrace in a succession of communicating open spaces, leaving the more utilitarian spaces of the home, the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom to be protected in a timber shell arranged in an L shape.
?The common area is completely transparent, formed by the sequence of ribs of trusses and pillars at sight and closed with thermo panel glass. The bedrooms and service area make up an opaque volume, sheltered under the roof of the shed, all coated with recycled wood.?
A large fireplace governs the living space and separates the dinning area from the actual living room.
The impressive barn-like exposed beam structure defines and dominates the entire space.
Simplicity and an eccentric rustic style has been adopted throughout the entire design.
A drop of blue hue adds contrast while fitting subtly to the entire rustic-industrial style vibe.
