Ontario Place for All opposes Ford plan for redevelopment of Ontario Place
The Future of Ontario Place Project?a consortium that includes participation from the John H.Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto, Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, and World Monuments Fund?has come out in opposition to the plan for redeveloping Ontario Place announced by the Ford government in late July. Here’s their recent statement in its entirety:

We, George Baird and Aziza Chaouni, professors from the John H.Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto, Bill Greaves, board member of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, and Javier Ors Ausi?n, from the World Monuments Fund, join our voices to the many who have already raised concern regarding the future of Ontario Place. Designed in the 1970s by architect Eb Zeidler and landscape architect Michael Hough, it is one of Canada?s modern heritage masterpieces. In June 2020, we assembled a consortium of scholars and experts to study the past, present, and future of Ontario Place, aiming to raise awareness around its cultural and heritage significance (www.futureofontarioplace.org). What made our intervention ever more urgent was the forthcoming announcement by the Provincial Government of Ontario of redevelopment plans that were advancing with a complete lack of transparency and which could have dire consequences for the site.
