Peter Braithwaite wins Ronald J. Thom Award for Early Design Achievement

Canada Council has named Halifax-based architect Peter Braithwaite as the winner of this year’s Ronald J. Thom Award for Early Design Achievement.
Braithwaite is the owner and operator of Peter Braithwaite Studio, an architecture and construction firm that has operated in Halifax, Nova Scotia since 2014.
Prior to attending architecture school, Braithwaite was trained as a carpenter and cabinetmaker. He believes that a dedication to craft and the act of making in general facilitates the production of enviornmentally and culturally sustainable buildings.
The Ronald J. Thom Award for Early Design Achievement is given to a practitioner of architecture or an architectural firm. The successful candidate for this award must be in the early stages of a career or practice and must demonstrate creative talent and exceptional potential in architectural design. The winner must also demonstrate sensitivity to architecture?s allied arts, crafts and professions within the context of an integrated built environment which include landscape architecture, interior design, furniture design, graphic design and decorative arts.
The award was established in collaboration with the Canada Council for the Arts in 1990, by friends and colleagues of the Canadian architect Ronald J. Thom. It honours Thom’s life and work while also celebrating the buildings he designed and the encouragement and inspiration he gave his colleagues.
