Prairie Style Architecture Details Define Home Remodeling In Canada
A collaboration between Open Form Architecture  and interior design practice FX Studio has been completed successfully. The project consisted in the remodeling of a home initially built in the `60; a home with a design that contained distinctive architectural details of the time, details worth preserving in the rehabilitation process. The successful story is entitled today Du Tour Residence, it resides in Montreal, Canada, beautifully nestled in vegetation.
In this endeavor the biggest challenge for the design teams was to bring the interior space into contemporaneity without destroying the character originally associated with it. As a result, the creative team strove to preserve and highlight the “prairie style” features by reintroducing natural wood into the setting.
A contemporary space was born within, the fluent spaces now encourage socializing and human cohesion, the indoor-outdoor living spaces have been tailored one onto the other to create balance by bringing the natural environment closer. The main accents consist of stone and wood in both interior and exterior spaces. The domestic balance is complemented by terraces on each end of the horizontal dwelling; symmetry is at home in this composition. One covered terrace, the northeastern one, overlooks a small steam of water that flows into Rivière des Prairies where at the other end, less than 110 feet away, the second veranda ties a connection with a sauna and gym at the baseme...
