Renzo Piano and EllisDon to design new Toronto courthouse
Today, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) selected a team led by contractors EllisDon as the preferred proponents to design downtown Toronto’s new courthouse. Beating out a handful of qualified Canadian and international teams, the EllisDon team features the acclaimed ? and Pritzker-winning ? Renzo Piano Building Workshop as lead architects.

Located immediately northwest of Nathan Phillips Square and City Hall, the tower-form courthouse will hold a prominent position at the heart of the city. While details of the Renzo Piano design have yet to be revealed, IO’s outlined plans call for an approximately 22-storey facility that will achieve a minimum of LEED Silver energy performance. The IO release ? EllisDon Infrastructure is the preferred proponent to design, build, finance and maintain the new Toronto courthouse project located at 10 Armoury Street, bordered by Centre Avenue and Chestnut Street. Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) selected EllisDon Infrastructure after extensive evaluations following an open, fair and competitive request for proposals process that began in October 2016.
