The UK-based Royal Academy of Arts has opened entries to its 2018 Summer Exhibition. Devoted to the promotion, appreciation, and practice of art and design, the artist-led organization hosts an annual summer exhibition, which is open to all artists and designers. Founded in 1769, the Summer Exhibition enters its 249th year, with submissions for the 2018 show now open. The Summer Exhibition continues in the tradition of showcasing a variety of work in all media, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, architecture and film.
A major part of each year’s Summer Exhibition is the Architecture Room. This year, entries to the Architecture Room will be coordinated by Piers Gough, RA. The well-known English architect ? of the practice CZWG ? was awarded a CBE in 1998, and served as Professor of Architecture at the Royal Academy Schools from 2013 to 2017. According to the Royal Academy, Gough “intends to create a room of models at eye height, encouraging architects to enter three-dimensional works of ‘all sizes and scales… rough ideas up to fully finished in any medium.” Ideally, the models submitted would be robust enough to be submitted without any protective covers.
