Dezeen Showroom: Italian brand SoldiDesign looked to chess pieces when designing its Royal Twin coat stand, a functional yet sculptural item made from recycled plexiglass.
The Royal Twin coat stand is made of two intersecting sheets of recycled plexiglass ? one representing the king piece and the other the queen piece on a chess board.

It was created by SoldiDesign's founder, architect and interior designer Gianluca Soldi, who wanted the piece to serve as both a functional item of furniture as well as a work of art that comments on gender and balance.
"Royal Twin is much more than a simple coat hanger: it is a statement of style, an invitation to reflection, a piece of design that transforms any room into a unique and memorable space," said SoldiDesign. The stand is made of two intersecting sheets of plexiglass
The coat stand is available in transparent or smoked black plexiglass, and its hooks can be used to hang clothes, jackets, bags and accessories.
SoldiDesign focuses on sustainability through the use of recycled and recyclable materials, with its entire production chain situated in Italy.
