Senator Scott Tannas discusses Centre Block’s rehabilitation
Senator Scott Tannas photographed in his office in the Senate of Canada Building on December 7, 2023. He has served as chair of the Senate?s Subcommittee on Long Term Vision and Plan on-and-off since 2016.
In February 2019, the Senate and House of Commons moved to temporary locations while Parliament’s Centre Block, their permanent home, is rehabilitated.
The House of Commons is currently situated in the restored West Block, designed by Architecture49 and EVOQ Architecture, architects in joint venture, while the Senate is currently located in a renovated Beaux-Arts train station designed by DSA-KWC Architects in joint venture.
An HOK-WSP joint venture called CENTRUS is leading the design of the expansion, conservation and rehabilitation of the main facility of the Centre Block. Within the joint venture, HOK is leading the architectural design and conservation efforts and is architect of record, with support from associate architects Architecture49, DFS and ERA Architects. An interview with Senator Scott Tannas, chair of the Senate’s Subcommittee on Long-Term Vision and Plan by the Senate of Canada’s SenCA+ Magazine, discusses project milestones and explores the reasons why the Centre Block’s restoration matters to Canadians.
