Sou Fujimoto Architects and AWAA Win Contest to Design High-rise Series in Brussels

Sou Fujimoto Architects along with AWAA were announced winners of the global contest for designing a group of new high-rise buildings in Brussels, Belgium.

The contest was headed by Unibra, as the developer, and Thomas & Piron, as the construction company. The former parties have commissioned the winning team to embark on developing an area ranging from 25,000-50,000 sqm to revive the site at the crossroads of Boulevard du Triomphe and Herrmann-Debroux viaduct.
The project?s first renderings display several inclining residential towers emerging from a single podium, with one tower featuring a bowl-shaped roof. The high-rises appear to have greenery in the balconies which link the towers at certain locations. Image via L’Echo
The project hasn?t been executed yet, as the developer is currently contemplating the possibility of including a gym, a cinema, a hotel, and some shops.
The winning proposal is considered a part of a bigger revamp plan that has involved the Chirec Delta Hospital, which was designed by the Belgian Assar Architects, and the Universalis Park housing community.
