The event will explore solutions to the issue of entry-level housing affordability for the Millennial generation in Hamilton?s housing market and urban design challenges/opportunities. Four multi-disciplinary teams will be invited to brainstorm design-oriented resolutions to the issue of this subject.
The HBSA states that the central idea is that infill or underutilized lands within cities can be exploited to provide affordable housing solutions for first-time homebuyers. After the charette, teams will continue to refine their work in preparation for an exhibition at the Carnegie Gallery. The exhibition will include design/architectural representation of the idea as well as work by work by local artists that speaks to the ideas presented by each team.
The show will be headlined by a presentation of the work and a panel discussion with Alex Bozikovic, Globe & Mail, Catharine Dowling, Ryerson University, Jason Thorne, City of Hamilton, and Erica Govan, Superkul.
The public is welcome to engage with the topic by attending parts of the event by registering a free ticket:
