The Taoyuan Museum of Art Competition Winners are Riken Yamamoto+Field Shop
Designed as a sloped rooftop park, the Taoyuan Museum of Art is a winning competition entry by Chinese firm Riken Yamamoto and Field Shop. Interestingly, this design was competing with MVRDV’s proposal and the Riken Yamamoto were announced the winners.

Located in Taiwan, The Taoyuan Museum of Art consists mainly of two buildings, while the shaded corridor and green roofs connect them together. The main space consists of permanent exhibitions, workshops and performing art.

Conceived as a theme park, the Taoyuan Museum of Art design is focused on creating a sense of discovery and making the Taoyuan museum as a place for entertainment. The architects also wanted to achieve continuity with the site, the environment, and the local community. Responding to the surrounding environment, the significant sloped roof faces the pond and consists of fully-functional green roofs.

On the other hand, “The Hill” is more of transitional space that features energetic activities and connects spaces together. It features terraces that show off the artworks and an outdoor theatre.

Another important space is the “Art Plaza”, which offers a platform for artists to put their work for sale or exhibit their artwork in exhibitions.
