Théâtre de la Vieille Forge unveils concept of its new facilities
The Théâtre de la Vieille Forge unveiled the architectural concept of its new facilities, which is slated for completion on the Longue Pointe in Petite-Vallée in 2024.
Following the architectural competition, the jury selected in situ architectural studio?s, in collaboration with VRA + LPA, design among the four proposals submitted.
The concept captivated the jurors for “its contribution to the evolution of the site, both from a historical and event point of view, as well as for the materiality and volumetry on a human scale of the building, which presents a gaspesian signature with the spirit of Village en chanson?.
? [This is a] great step forward, marked by a long but very rewarding process, as well as by proposals that have made people dream. I am very happy with the concept developed by in situ atelier d’architecture: a proposal that is part of tradition and history to be written. We can speak of a new breath for the Village en chanson,? says lan Côté, general and artistic director of the organization.
Playing with the shapes, colours and techniques of vernacular maritime architecture, the new Théâtre de la Vieille Forge will fit organically into the landscape. With its two linear volumes parallel to the rocks and notches that jut out into the sea as well as its lanterns acting sometimes as a beacon and skylight, the architectural concept will preserve the conviviality of its space.
