This week on Dezeen, conservation group Docomomo responded to news that actor Chris Pratt had demolished a modernist house in LA designed by architect Craig Ellwood.
In response to the demolition, Docomomo US executive director Liz Waytkus told Dezeen that unprotected modernist houses in the US are at risk of demolition as the land they sit on often holds greater value than the building's architectural heritage. "The problem is systemic," she told Dezeen. "Older mid-century homes are smaller and underbuilt for their plots of land."
"The land has become more valuable than the house, and even if people understand the value of such a home, location and land value often trump architectural significance."
