Trafalgar Square crazy golf project for London Design Festival in doubt
Organisers of the London Design Festival are holding an emergency meeting to discuss the fate of its flagship crazy golf project for Trafalgar Square after a Kickstarter fundraising campaign looked set to fail to meet its target.
Featuring holes by the likes of furniture designer Tom Dixon, fashion designer Paul Smith and the late architect Zaha Hadid, the Visionary Crazy Golf project needs to raise £120,000 before its deadline at midnight tonight, but has so far only raised £22,616 - less than a fifth of the target.
The late Zaha Hadid contributed a proposal featuring her characteristic undulating forms to the Visonary Crazy Golf course scheme
The project, described by the festival as the "most ambitious" of its annual interventions in the iconic central London square, could now be abandoned. In an email sent 10 days before the deadline date on 27 May, the organisers made a last-ditch attempt at enticing backers, and said the project would not proceed unless it hit its funding target.

"If we fail to meet the Kickstarter target, unfortunately this project won?t be able to go ahead, so your support is crucial," the email read.
Had it been reached, the £120,000 Kickstarter target would have been matched by sponsors to allow the nine-hole course to be constructed.
