All are welcome to join a participatory walkshop examining how African and Caribbean Canadian heritage can be reflected in the proposed Mirvish Village redevelopment. The area?s layered history includes the development of Bloor and Bathurst as a commercial hub of significance to waves of immigrants and, in particular, African and Caribbean Canadians.
Walkshops are a participatory method of tapping into knowledge and expertise citizens bring to the design process. The input is being captured, anonymized and summarized for public review by an independent third party facilitator. The walkshop summary will be used by the Mirvish Village design team to inform and guide heritage interpretation approaches including signage, plaques, social uses of the site, and more. This walkshop is an extension of the Welcome to Blackhurst Street exhibition taking place at Markham House. An exhibition that commemorates and celebrates the Black history of Bathurst and Bloor using archival material and original artwork.The exhibition also examines the current state of the community and its future role in shaping our city.
