Zaha Hadid Port House in Amberes
This project is supported a new structure and a former fire station. It had to serve as the new headquarters of the Port Authority of Antwerp.
The location is quite strategic, between the city and the harbor, and has great views of its surroundings.
It is an area with about fifty kilometers of docks, forming one of the most important ports throughout Europe, both for Belgium and for other countries.
Once again the architect Zaha Hadid showed that no architecture impossible. He designed a ‘ship’ on another building, with a facade that combines transparent and reflective elements. This made an allusion to the close relationship that this city has with diamond cutting.
The works also include the rehabilitation of the existing building. It has a large central atrium, offices, meeting rooms, an auditorium, and a panoramic restaurant on the new extension. There are two underground floors for parking. In total about 500 employees work there.
