Benjamin Hubert to speak about building a design business at Dezeen Day
British industrial designer Benjamin Hubert will speak at the Dezeen Day conference in London on 30 October.
Hubert, founder of creative agency Layer, will speak about how he grew his business as part of the discussion about entrepreneurialism in architecture and design.
Hubert studied industrial design and technology at Loughborough University, graduating in 2006.
After working for design consultancies DCA Design, Seymour Powell and Tangerine, he founded Benjamin Hubert Ltd in 2010, aged just 24. The London-based designer became particularly known for his furniture designs for brands including Moroso, Cappellini and Ligne Roset.
Benjamin Hubert will be speaking at Dezeen Day
In 2015 he rebranded the studio, changing its name to Layer and broadening his focus beyond furniture, homeware and product design to offer a wide range of design-led services including user experience, branding, installation design and research. "It's not that we're not turning our back on furniture design, but we're just re-focusing a little bit," Hubert told Dezeen in an interview at the time of the rebrand. "I think our responsibility is to use design for more than just the next nice chair."
Layer works with global clients including Nike, Google, Samsung and Braun.
At Dezeen Day, Hubert will join a panel discussion about entrepreneurialism. This will explore how architects and designers can profit from their creativity rather than simply helping clients improve their businesses...
