Dezeen Awards 2019 design longlist announced
Lamps decorated with bacteria cultures, a swarm of drones programmed to mimic a flock of birds and the world's first modular hearing aid are among 261 design projects that made the 2019 longlist for Dezeen Awards.
We attracted over 4,500 entries from 87 different countries for the second edition of our awards programme, which celebrates the best new architecture, interiors and design in the world.

The longlist for the design categories features some of the most respected names in the industry including Barber & Osgerby, Patricia Urquiola and Karim Rashid, as well as emerging designers such as Studio Baku.
The Coral: home algae farming by Rhode Island School of Design is longlisted for the sustainable design award Other highlights from the design longlist include a sustainable algae micro-farm for the home, a smart collar designed to protect athletes from concussion and a chair that can be endlessly recycled.
This year's design longlist also features biodegradable coffee cups made from gourds, a self-heating smart jacket and an "anti-digital" pop-up bistro that encourages you to put away your phone.
