hcma joins global B Corp community
In response to the urgent need for firms to take responsibility for their environmental and social impact, Western Canadian interdisciplinary design firm hcma is now B Corp certified.    Â
B Corp businesses are leading a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. Certification is the next step in 46-year-old hcma?s evolution, as it aims to better reflect the changing role of?buildings, brands, and shared experiences in society.    Â
To date, almost 5400 B Corps have been certified in over 75 countries. One of almost 600 companies located in Canada, hcma joins global names like Ben & Jerry?s, Kickstarter and Patagonia leading on social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.      B Corp certification is in line with RAIC’s Resolution for Urgent and Sustained Action on Climate and Ecological Health. Alongside maintaining B Corps certification, the firm continues to use industry rating systems and certification programs like WELL and LEED to measure the impact of projects. In the past year, hcma?s Clayton Community Centre earned Passive House certification for Clayton Community Centre, the first of its kind to be certified for ultra-low energy use in North America and the largest non-residential project to be certified in North America.       Â
